Abhigyan Kundu’s Historic Double Century Powers India U19 to Record 315-Run Win

Dubai, December 16, 2025: The India U19 cricket team delivered a performance of total dominance, dismantling Malaysia U19 by a colossal 315 runs in a Group A match of the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai. The victory was headlined by a historic, record-breaking innings from wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu, whose unbeaten double century propelled India to an imposing total, before the bowlers completed the clinical rout.

India U19 Innings: A Run-Scoring Barrage

Malaysia U19 skipper Deeaz Patro won the toss and elected to field first, a decision that soon turned into a nightmare as the Indian batters unleashed a relentless assault.

The Indian innings was built on a foundation of aggressive intent right from the start. Although openers Ayush Mhatre (14) and Vihaan Malhotra (7) fell relatively early, it was the explosive fifty from Vaibhav Suryavanshi that set the tone. Suryavanshi hammered a blistering 50 off just 26 balls, laced with five boundaries and three maximums, ensuring the Powerplay ended with the scoreboard blazing at 87/3.

The real spectacle, however, began with the arrival of Abhigyan Kundu at number five. Initially settling in alongside Vedant Trivedi, Kundu played a chanceless innings that seamlessly transitioned from accumulation to complete destruction. The duo stitched together a phenomenal 209-run partnership, effectively taking the game out of Malaysia’s grasp by the 40th over.

Trivedi played the perfect foil, anchoring the innings with a solid 90 off 106 balls, before falling in the 41st over. But Kundu was in a league of his own. He reached his century off just 80 deliveries and accelerated ferociously in the death overs. The left-hander finished the innings on an incredible 209 not out off just 125 balls, becoming the first Indian and only the second player overall to score a double-century in a Youth ODI. His monumental effort included 17 boundaries and 9 sixes, rewriting the record books.

India’s late-innings flourish saw them add over 110 runs in the final ten overs, thanks to Kundu’s carnage and a quick cameo from Kanishk Chouhan (14 off 11). The innings culminated with India posting a mammoth 408 for 7 in their 50 overs, setting a near-impossible target of 409 for the Malaysian side. For Malaysia, paceman Muhammad Akram Malek was the solitary silver lining, finishing with a commendable five-wicket haul (5/89).

Malaysia U19 Innings: The Steepest of Chases

Chasing over 8 runs per over from the first ball, the Malaysian innings never got off the ground. The immense pressure of the target, coupled with a relentless Indian bowling attack, led to an immediate collapse.

India’s opening bowlers made early inroads, reducing Malaysia to 18 for 3 inside nine overs. The middle order offered little resistance, turning the chase into a desperate fight for survival. Spinner Deepesh Devendran was the chief destroyer, running through the middle and lower order with surgical precision.

Malaysia lost four wickets for just 14 runs between the 11th and 17th overs, slumping from 18/2 to 32/6, effectively ending any competitive contest. Devendran’s spell was a masterclass in exploiting scoreboard pressure, and he finished with phenomenal figures of 5 wickets for just 22 runs in 7 overs.

The only noteworthy resistance came from Hamzah Bin Panggi, who displayed grit to score a top-total of 35 off 52 balls. However, he lacked support from the other end. Eventually, Malaysia U19 were bowled out for a mere 93 in 32.1 overs, handing India U19 a massive 315-run victory—a clear statement of their title credentials in the tournament.
